Parenting between
Two Worlds

Support for Persian-American Families Navigating Culture & Parenting

Your Child Is Growing Up in a Western Culture.

You're raising your children in a world you didn’t grow up in, and the rules, values, and expectations constantly collide, and you’re dealing with daily battles no one prepared you for, screen addiction, lack of motivation, mood changes, anxiety, and growing emotional distance.

If you feel overwhelmed, confused, or disconnected from your child, struggling with screens, motivation, emotional shutdown, or constant conflict…
You are not alone, And it is not your fault.

You are Parenting from an Iranian Culture in a Western society, and somewhere in the middle, the relationship begins to break.

Persian families all over the world, especially in the U.S. and California, are navigating a completely different parenting landscape than the one in which they were raised. The challenges are real, painful, and often isolating.

The Hidden Challenges Iranian Parents Face

But Seldom Express Out Loud

1. You Are Parenting Without a Roadmap

Iran’s rules don’t work the same way here.
Western rules feel too foreign.

And you’re stuck in the middle, trying desperately not to lose your child or your values. This often shows up as confusion around screens, school pressure, independence, and how much freedom is too much.

2. A Cultural Clash That Creates Daily Conflict

Your child absorbs Western independence, emotional expression, and freedom, while you carry the values of respect, modesty, family loyalty, and discipline. These two worlds collide every single day.

3. Your Teen Pulls Away, and You Don’t Know Why

You may notice more time alone, more time online, less motivation, and fewer real conversations. You try everything you know… and nothing seems to work anymore. Arguments increase. Silence grows. Your teen becomes distant, and your heart breaks.

4. Shame, Guilt & Comparison That Shut Teens Down

The very tools our culture gave us, guilt, fear, comparison, pressure, backfire in Western environments, leading to more conflict and emotional distance.

5. Teen Mental Health Struggles Are Increasing

Iranian teens abroad quietly battle anxiety, depression, loneliness, identity confusion, burnout, academic pressure, and perfectionism, while parents feel helpless and unsure how to help.

6. The Fear of “Losing Them to Western Culture.”

If you protect too much, they push away.
If you loosen up, you feel out of control.

Parenting Iranian Kids & Teens in Western Countries™

A culturally grounded, psychologically modern approach created specifically for Persian families abroad.
Most parenting models were never built for the Iranian diaspora. They don’t understand our values, our fears, our emotional patterns, or our generational history.

You deserve a parenting approach designed for your culture, your children, and your lived reality.

My name is
Sheri Sabrdaran.

I’m a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Newport Beach, California, and a parenting and relationship coach working with families around the world.

But before any title, I’m a mother, and I know how heavy parenting a teenager can feel, especially when you’re doing it between cultures.

When I raised my children here, I often asked myself:

  • How much freedom is too much?

  • How do I keep them safe without pushing them away?

  • How do I hold onto our values without turning into someone they resent?

Those questions didn’t make me weak, they made me curious, humble, and committed to learning.

That journey shaped the way I work today.

Why My Approach Works

After 33 years in the United States, raising two children here, and serving hundreds of families in my clinical practice, I bring a rare and powerful combination of skills.

Clinical expertise as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

I understand trauma, attachment, regulation, teen behavior, and family dynamics at a deep clinical level.

A lived understanding of Iranian culture and values

I know our emotional language, our expectations, our fears, our generational wounds, and how they show up in parenting.

Personal experience raising children in America

I navigated the same cultural challenges you’re facing and raised two highly successful kids. I understand both worlds, because I have lived in both, and I help you do the same.

Specialized training in adolescent psychology & brain development

I teach parents what is normal, what is developmental, and what is a cultural misunderstanding, so you can stop panicking and start connecting.
